My new song dark indie pop song, ‘The Land of Mist and Snow’, featuring fingerstyle guitar, layered vocals, gentle piano and a looped beat track. As usual, I made this with only two instruments, my acoustic guitar and my 80s synthesiser. The lyrics are actually based on a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge ‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner’ about a cursed group of mariners. It’s a poem I hated as a student but I recently re-read it and knew I wanted to write a song about it. I recommend reading the poem, it’s long but it’s good. I wrote it from the point of the view of the protagonist who is the only one left alive. I also made a video to go along with this video which is available on my YouTube channel. It contains vintage footage of ships. I hope you enjoy this new single, let me know in the comments.
